Traditionally Untraditional...or maybe it's untraditionally traditional. Bluegrass bands struggle daily with this handle that has been used to describe their music and their style - especially bands claiming Asheville, North Carolina as home base. Sanctum Sully thankfully deviates mightily from said agenda. While fully capable of wrangling a helluva version of "John Hardy" they'd much prefer to punch you in the gut with potent and powerfully written original songs.
3 part harmonies, blues based guitar riffs, ringer of a mandolin, and one helluva beer drinkin crowd, and you've got yourself a 'Sully' show. Foot stompin good times and grassed up versions of blues, rock, and jamband tunes could sneak their way between a unique array of originals in their somewhat unpredictable sets.
Sanctum Sully's strengths are many and their vices just as plentiful, however, your ears will delight in NOT hearing just another Asheville bluegrass band. You'll actually EXPERIENCE the music, and are bound to get yourself at least a buzz by osmosis from their devoted - if somewhat rowdy - foot stompin followin'.

Jason Hann and Michael Travis (percussionist and drummer from the band The String Cheese Incident) make up this 100% improvised live Breakbeat/ House/ Drum n Bass/ Trip Hop project. Drawing from the ethos of some of the great DJ's and computer artists of the world, they use cutting edge technology to create truly original and melodic dance music in the moment, with the undeniable power of live drums. The music is all created on the spot, recorded, then mixed and remixed LIVE to create an ever evolving musical experience. Since the project is 100% improvised, every night promises to be a unique dance experience. Hann and Travis play different roles in this band than in SCI. Jason plays the drum kit, percussion and sampler, while Travis is in charge of the tonal elements, playing bass, guitar, keyboards, as well as hand percussion and live mixing.

Hoots & Hellmouth are a busy bunch. Road warriors to the bitter end, they’ve somehow found time to enter the studio twice in the last year to produce two records showcasing their forward-thinking roots/soul music. Their latest offering, the full-length Salt (street date 10/4/11), was recorded in their hometown of Philadelphia at Miner Street Studios with friend/engineer Jon Low (Dr. Dog, Sharon Van Etten, Twin Sister). The result speaks volumes to the evolution of a band committed to pushing their boundaries and exploring new sonic horizons.

We're not going to tell you about The Plaids. We're just not going to tell you all that boring bio stuff, such as "The Plaids have been rockin' the Carolinas and beyond for over four years now," and how members of this band have played in or with most of the great regional party bands, such as Absolute 80's, the Breakfast Club, McFly, Ultraviolet, The Vagabond Saints' Society, blah, blah, blah.
So what do you need to know about The Plaids? Well, many say that they throw the most rocking parties around. Many shake their heads in wonder and say, "How do they do that?" Others shake their heads in wonder and say "WHY do they do that?" Lots of cheesy 80's? You got it. Do they bring the rock? You betcha. But what about Neil Diamond? Are they afraid to fire up a fog machine and sing like girls? Check, no way, and they prefer it like that.
