Version City Tour
Version City Tour
Ska and Reggae legend King Django (Stubborn All-Stars, Skinnerbox, et al) teams up with old friend and collaborator Doctor Ring Ding and North Carolina powerhouse Brian Hill (Regatta 69) to assemble a dazzling all-star group for three solid weeks of Reggae-Rocksteady-Ska parties. These veteran performers will be joined by some of the most talented musicians in the genre to showcase their original compositions and a selection of classic cover tunes, supported by the best of local and regional ska and reggae bands.

With an international reputation built on residencies at legendary venues like NYC’s The Knitting Factory, singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and DJ King Django took his popular, long-standing “Version City Party” to the road in late 2012. On the first Version City Tour, Django introduced The Snails to the East Coast, covering 10 states with 30 shows. On Version City Tour #2, Django, Hill and DeCarlo along with drummer Anthony Vito played 25 shows in 24 nights down and up the coast, while part three was a quick, northeastern 8-night mini-tour featuring Django and his NJ buddies Predator Dub Assassins.

King Django has toured extensively as the founder and leader of both Stubborn All-Stars and Skinnerbox and sideman for the Slackers, The Toasters, Rancid and Murphy’s Law. He has been running the influential Stubborn Records and Version City labels since 1992. As highlighted in the popular indie documentary “Brooklyn Rocksteady,” Django assembled the Version City recording studio in 1997, which rapidly became the hub of the NYC ska and reggae scene. In 2014 he was invited to perform at the Institute of Jamaica’s Music Museum in Kingston, Jamaica , taking the stage with reggae luminaries Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, Ras Michael, Big Youth, and Junior Reid.

Dr. Ring Ding is a remarkably prolific and versatile singer/instrumentalist who has been on the world circuit since 1987. He is regarded as one of the driving forces behind Reggae in Germany. An entertainer in the truest sense of the word, he is stylistically at home within the entire spectrum of Jamaican music. Tireless touring throughout Europe, North and South America, as well as Africa and Asia has secured his role as an integral player in the international Reggae, Dancehall and Ska scenes. Numerous albums and a plethora of singles, as well as guest appearances with other bands of the most diverse genres have solidified his reputation as a multi-faceted performer, musician, arranger and producer. On record, Dr. Ring Ding delivers an overwhelming diversity of Reggae and Dancehall styles in various languages. The good doctor can swing with funky-reggae-club sounds, show off a rough edge, take the listener to the lighter side of life with groovy Reggae tunes and his undisputed Dancehall smash hits, all the while recalling the heyday of Jamaican Rub-A-Dub style and traditional Ska.

Brian Hill’s unmistakable voice, memorable songs and lyrical bass stylings have been the sonic backbone of his internationally touring rock-reggae band Regatta 69. For more than a decade he has been touring extensively throughout the US and Europe, delivering smooth performances of his uplifting songs to audiences in 42 States and 17 countries. Titles from his 12 album releases of rock-infused third wave ska continue to appear on playlists around the world.

John DeCarlo is an accomplished guitarist and singer who has toured extensively throughout 11 countries. Best known as a member of 2-time Boston Music Award winner Westbound Train (Hellcat/Epitaph Records), he has performed and/or recorded with countless artists including legendary singer Derrick Morgan, Larry McDonald, King Django, Dr. Ring Ding, Chris Murray, Satori, the Void Union, Boubacar Diabate, Pressure Cooker, Obi Fernandez, Angelo Moore and Lynval Golding. John gigs frequently with Boston Reggae group John DeCarlo & Company, which features his original songs mixed with early reggae and soul classics.
